Today, Apple Announces the Availability of the Oceanic+ App for Divers, Designed Specifically for the Apple Watch Ultra Customers.

Initially announced alongside the Apple Watch Ultra in September during the Far Out event, the new app gives Apple Watch Ultra customers with comprehensive dive data.

The Oceanic+ software for Apple Watch Ultra is now available, transforming Apple’s most durable watch into a fully functional, user-friendly dive computer.

Oceanic+, created by Huish Outdoors in collaboration with Apple, enables recreational scuba divers to take the watch they wear every day to previously unattainable depths — up to 40 meters, or 130 feet, to be exact — by utilizing the brand-new depth gauge and water temperature sensors on Apple Watch Ultra.

The Oceanic+ app on Apple Watch Ultra and the companion app for iPhone include all of the essential functions of a sophisticated dive computer, as well as strong dive planning and a thorough post-dive experience.

Divers Can Now Use the Oceanic+ Apple Watch App

Today, Apple announced the official availability of the Oceanic+ application for the Apple Watch Ultra. Now, Apple Watch Ultra users can change their device into a “fully functional, user-friendly diving computer.” The new application surpasses the Depth App previously installed on the device.

Apple Watch Ultra users are able to take their devices to depths of up to 40 meters (130 feet) as a result of a partnership between Apple and Huish Outdoors. This is made possible by the water temperature sensors and depth gauge contained within the Apple Watch Ultra.

Now, the new Oceanic+ app provides Apple Watch Ultra users with a diving companion featuring robust dive planning, an advanced dive computer, and a “comprehensive post-dive experience.”

According to the latest Apple news release,

“Our mission at Huish Outdoors is to fuel the human spirit for adventure,” says Mike Huish, the CEO of the company.

“Oceanic+ on Apple Watch Ultra is one of the most significant innovations to impact the diving industry in recent memory. We’re making scuba diving more accessible, shareable, and enjoyable for everyone.”

Through the Oceanic+ app, divers can now receive timely and accurate information about their dives.

Oceanic+ app,

Users can set their depth, gas, and surface time using the dive planner, and Oceanic+ will calculate their No Deco (no-decompression) time. This enables divers to know their time limit at specific depths.

In addition, the dive planner takes dive conditions into account. This includes tides, water temperatures, and even community-provided updates on visibility and currents.

Exploring Features

After a dive, Oceanic+ enables users to automatically view relevant diving data on their Apple Watch Ultra. In addition to a dive profile, the application will also provide GPS entry and exit locations. In addition, users will receive information regarding depth, ascent rate, and no-decompression limit.

Users will also have access to vital information such as no-fly time, surface time, quick access to the dive planner, and more. Additionally, users will be able to share their experiences directly within the application.

Notably, while the Oceanic+ basic plan is free, access to “tissue loading,” “location planner,” “decompression tracking,” and “unlimited logbook capacity” costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Oceanic+ is available on the family plan for $129. It can be shared by up to five people.

Oceanic+ requires an Apple Watch Ultra with watchOS 9.1 and an iPhone 8

Oceanic+ requires an Apple Watch Ultra with watchOS 9.1 and an iPhone 8 or later running iOS 16.1 paired with an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later running iOS 16.1.

More on “Oceanic+ on Apple Watch Ultra

“Our mission at Huish Outdoors is to fuel the human spirit for adventure,” says Mike Huish, the CEO of the company.

“Oceanic+ on Apple Watch Ultra is one of the most significant breakthroughs to impact the diving business in recent memory. We’re making scuba diving more accessible, shareable, and enjoyable for everyone.”

When the first scuba divers began exploring the depths of the world’s oceans in the 1950s, dive computers were around 30 years away.

In the 1980s and 1990s, many trained divers were still creating their own dive tables by hand. Using the Bühlmann decompression algorithm, they would monitor their depth and time in the water to ensure that they could descend safely without overburdening their bodies with nitrogen.

Today, Apple Watch Ultra radically improves this experience, providing recreational divers with a more handy and accessible device with all the capabilities Apple Watch customers currently appreciate.

Apple Watch Ultra is now available for divers.

Andrea Silvestri, vice president of product development and design at Huish Outdoors, supervised the development of Oceanic+.

“Divers now have a partner that communicates clear and timely information,” she adds.

Silvestri has been testing Oceanic+ on his watch underwater in preparation for its release.

Apple Watch Ultra’s intuitiveness, which frees divers from the weight of mental calculations and difficult button presses required by conventional dive computers, enables them to remain present-minded and attentive to their surroundings.

“From the Apple Watch Ultra’s large, bright Retina display and dual-core S8 SiP to its compact size, to its Digital Crown and dedicated Action button, and even the haptics, which are designed so well and are so noticeable in the water, there has never been anything like this in scuba diving before,” says Silvestri.

Apple Watch Ultra is certified to WR100 and EN 13319, an internationally known standard for dive equipment, which includes depth gauges.

The 49mm titanium case and flat sapphire front crystal expose the largest and brightest Apple Watch display to date, which, at up to 2000 nits, allows for great underwater visibility.

During a dive, clicking the Action button will mark a compass bearing.

The Action button may be modified to launch the Oceanic+ app into the predive screen, and it will mark a compass bearing when pressed during a dive.
